Online Obituaries for Lexington, KY

Lawrence “L.T.” Flynn, 103, widower of Jennie A Flynn, passed peacefully on November 10, 2017.   L.T. was a life long resident of Lexington, the son of Lawrence McKinley and Nannie May Littrell Flynn.  He is survived by his son Michael L. Flynn [Melanie], the apples of his eyes-his grandchildren, Daniel L. Flynn and Madeline G. Flynn, his niece Lisa [Bill] Porter and their children Sarah and Katie.  L.T. was a 1933 graduate of Henry Clay High School.  He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Lexington.  He enlisted in the US Army after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served in the Antiaircraft Artillery School.  He operated Chrysler U-Drive It as his first career, and he sponsored and coached a championship softball team through this business.  Before meeting the love of his life Jennie, he was an avid sportsman.  He won several trapshooting championships throughout the southeast with Winchesters Arms Company as a sponsor.   He was also instrumental in the founding and development of the Bluegrass Sportsman’s League.

Active in real estate his entire life, L.T. was a residential builder and developer, 1968 President of the Lexington Board of Realtors, and served on the LFUCG Planning and Zoning commission for 14 years.

His life long business venture was in banking and finance, beginning in a partnership with his father at the Royal Security Company. Throughout this 75 year career, he also worked at Central Bank and Bank of Lexington, extending real estate credit to many customers. He graduated from the National Mortgage School at Ohio State University.  His final position from which he retired was as a founding Board Member and Director of Citizens Commerce National Bank in Versailles, KY.

In his later years, he loved following the UK Women’s basketball and softball teams and never missed a Monday night WWE Raw match. L.T. was revered for his abilities on the dance floor, where he could often be found cutting the rug with Jennie. Their reunion will be joyful.
