Obituary

Owen Eugene Gilbert, 79, died on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on August 22, 1930, in Paducah, Kentucky. He graduated from Tilghman High School in 1948 and from Paducah Junior College in 1950.

Owen worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years and served as Postmaster of the Glasgow Post Office before his retirement in 1987. He was an officer in the Lion's Club, taught Sunday School for 25 years at First United Methodist Church in Glasgow, was a faithful volunteer at First UMC's Food Pantry, and supported the Glasgow YMCA.

He is survived by six children, Terri (Dave Hubbard) Gilbert of Boynton Beach, Florida, Debra Flynt of Lexington, Sherrie (Jack) Duff of Lexington, Clark Gilbert of Cocoa, Florida, Malena (David) Hatcher of Springfield, Tennessee, and Lora Nell Gilbert of Berea; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Christine) Flynt, Casey (Angie) Flynt, Sarah (Jeff) Levy, Patrick (Sarah) Duff, Greta Hatcher, Elsa Hatcher, and Francis Sparrowen; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Forest Gilbert.

Owen was preceded in death by three brothers, Robertson Lee Gilbert, Jr., James B. Gilbert, and William Gilbert.

Funeral Information

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be 3-5 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing.
