David "Skip" LewerentzNovember 16, 1941 - January 24, 2012 Obituary
David "Skip" Lewerentz, 70, of Nicholasville, Kentucky and husband of Becky Lewerentz, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Thomson Hood Veteran Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was born November 16, 1941 in Los Angles, California to the late Herbert and Dolores Bennett Lewerentz. Skip proudly served his country as part of the U.S. Army's 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, part of the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division 'Screaming Eagles' and the Special Forces. These were the soldiers that fought The Battle of Hamburger Hill during The Vietnam War, also known as Hill 937, and as depicted in the 1987 Movie "Hamburger Hill." Skip was honored in 1968 and had his wings pinned on him by General Westmoreland at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After his service in the military, he was successful as a master stone mason, owner of his own construction company called Viking Construction in Southern California and general superintendent of numerous commercial construction projects across the United States. He was past president of the Sons of Norway and the official Viking mascot of California Lutheran University. Skip loved collecting antiques and "stuff" it was his passion. In addition to his wife Becky, he is survived by his daughter and granddaughter, Laura Lewerentz and Dagmar Sivene of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Judy Lewerentz of Raliegh, NC, Sue (Ed) Nelson of El Dorado Hills, CA and Cozie (Chuck) Stoffell of Woodstock, GA; and brother, Ron (Dale) Bennett of Danville, CA; nieces Sandy Rowan of Whittier, CA, Bobby Dee Cullen of Raleigh, NC; nephews Michael Citric of Raleigh, NC, Tony Disesso of Texas and Ronnie Bennett of Modesto, CA. Funeral InformationVisitation will be 12-1pm, Monday, January 30, 2012 at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing, followed by a Funeral Service at 1pm. Burial and full Military Honors will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 2:30pm.
