Obituary for Marion Jean Robinson

Marion Jean Robinson, a life-long resident of Lexington, Kentucky, died January 1, 2019. Her work here is complete. She fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.

While on this earth, she was a source of life and love to her community and family. As a member of Porter Memorial and Rosemont Baptist churches, she rarely missed a Sunday or class meeting. She shared many great memories of homemakers, the garden club, bowling league and traveling with friends.

The best memories, however, Jean reserved for her family as she raised and loved two wonderful children, teaching them much about life, especially in her last years. She demonstrated strength, love and dignity through her fight with Alzheimer’s. She created magical Christmas gatherings and adventures for her grandchildren who called her “go-go Grandmom.” Those she loved were always greeted with smiles, hugs and joyful clapping hands.

Jean was employed at the University of Kentucky Margaret I. King Library for over 30 years. Here, she served students, faculty and staff, and threw the BEST parties. She also developed a deep devotion to the men’s basketball team, her “boys.” For decades, she was their biggest fan, earning her the title, “Miss Kentucky.” She knew every word to the UK fight song. This devotion will continue as she keeps an eye on her beloved Wildcats, cheering them on from heaven with a great host of saints this spring. No pressure boys!

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Robinson, and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Sjogren. She is survived by her daughter Sue Williams and husband, Mack, and son Steve Robinson and his wife, Jennifer. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Michelle Sjogren (Ray), Todd Hargett (Carla), Angela Streeter (Brian), Jim Williams (Nikki), Jessica Carnes (Davy); fourteen great grandchildren, Ashton, Madeline, Emilyne, Nikki, Savannah, Collin, Katie, Kaili, Kacie, Andrew, Spencer, Cara, Liam and Bella; and six great-great grandchildren, Anna, Kaylee, Lukas, Maddox, Malachi, Meadow, Daniel.

With deep gratitude, the family recognizes those who lovingly cared for Jean at The Homeplace at Midway and Care Navigators of the Bluegrass.

She left detailed instructions for us to JOYFULLY remember her time here, which is now complete. So with us, celebrate her smile, warmth, generosity, energy, love for life and friends, and fierce adoration and commitment to her family.

To the very last day, she lit up every room she entered and radiated the love that flowed from her heart.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Clark Legacy Center 601 East Brannon Road, Nicholasville, Kentucky from 12-2 p.m., followed by her celebration of her life service. The burial will immediately follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Homeplace at Midway and Care Navigators of the Bluegrass.
